Recurring Black Filters?

Are darkened, black air filters are a consistent problem? This could be from mold, candle soot, or other issues with the ducts. SERVPRO® has the capability and knowledge to assess your ducts, filters, and environment to help determine factors causing frequent filter issues. In addition to identifying issues, our team of experts can properly mitigate the issue(s) at hand and prevent further problems. Also, we can conduct air quality testing to help identifying the sources of microbes and darkened filters. One commonly misdiagnosed issue is candle soot. Consistent candle burning may waft soot towards the air filter can increase the frequency of needing to change your air filter if the candle is too close to the duct returns. To properly track how often filters are needed to be changed, start by writing the date of install on the new filter, this will help track the frequency.

What to do With Potential Mold Until Help Arrives

What to Do:

  • Turn off the HVAC system, fans of other air moving equipment you have in your home.
  • Restrict access to the area for pets, kids, and yourself. If the mold is contained in one room or an area that has a door, this helps to contain the potential mold threat.
  • Attempt to determine the source, such as leaking water to help stop the continued mold affects.

What Not to Do:

  • Do not touch or disturb the mold.
  • Don’t blow air across any surfaces with visible or suspected mold growth.
  • If you find the area wet, do not attempt to dry the area yourself.
  • Do not spray bleach or other disinfectants on the mold growth.
  • Do not paint over it.
